Over the past two years much work has been done by many dedicated Eden Prairie school district staff and community members resulting in the decision to move to a K - 6 configuration.  I believe that this change will result in three very important outcomes for our students:

1. A better learning environment for all children in Eden Prairie.  We live in an increasingly diverse world.  All students will have the opportunity to benefit from an educational experience enriched by diversity beginning in Kindergarten rather than waiting until 5th grade.

2. Children will have extended relationships with more adults due to the elimination of an additional transition and the potential for 7 years in one building.  More educational professionals will really know each child, what motivates them and how they learn best.  More caring adults will be able to support each child as they change, their family changes, and the world changes around them.  Consistent, caring, meaningful relationships help kids become more confident, empathetic, and successful adults.

3. Enhanced curriculum that supports success in today's world.  Starting a new elementary school and reconfiguring our existing schools creates an amazing opportunity to evaluate and improve elementary education in Eden Prairie.  While other districts offer STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) curriculum to some students, we have the opportunity to infuse these important principles into the curriculum at every one of our elementary schools for ALL students.  For the United States to remain globally competitive we must do a better job of educating our students in these disciplines and Eden Prairie has the opportunity to do just that.
